Hale Chatfield wrote eighteen books, including ten volumes of poetry. Some of his books are Possessions, At Home, Water Colors, What Color Are Your Eyes?, The Young Country, and The Sotto Voce Massacres. Literary criticism by Chatfield appeared in Kenyon Review, Milton Quarterly, Northeast, Trace, and University Review. He also wrote for the reference works Contemporary Literary Criticism and Dictionary of Literary Themes and Motifs. He taped a two-week educational series on poetry for NBC-TV. Chatfield was actively involved for more than twenty years in Ohio’s “Poets in the Schools” program.
